California Governor Newsom trolled President Donald Trump with new MAGA-like merch that takes aim at a red hat the Republican was recently spotted wearing.
Newsom, who is widely speculated to be a potential presidential candidate in 2028, has recently been engaging in some light-hearted mockery of Trump on social media.
“NEW MERCH COMING SOON! YOU’RE WELCOME, PATRIOTS!” Newsom announced in a post on X on Friday, accompanied by several American flag emojis.
The post included a picture of a red hat, similar to those sold by the Trump campaign, emblazoned with the white text which said, “NEWSOM WAS RIGHT ABOUT EVERYTHING!”

The post comes after Trump was spotted wearing a red hat on Friday which said “Trump was right about everything.”
In past posts, Newsom mimicked the president’s distinctive all-caps style and language.
“WOW! ! ! MY MAPS (THE BEST MAPS EVER MADE) WILL SOON PASS IN THE GREATEST LEGISLATURE ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD (NOT JUST AMERICA). AMERICA CAN THANK ME (GAVIN C. NEWSOM) AND TWO VERY SPECIAL PEOPLE – MAGIC MIKE & RAINMAKER ROBERT, WHO LEAD THE LEGISLATURE – TOTAL LEGENDS!!!” Newsom posted through his press office on X.
“PEOPLE ARE ALREADY SCREAMING ‘MAMA! MAMA!’ AND I SAY, ‘NO, I AM YOUR DADDY!!!'” Newsom continued. “THE GOLDEN ERA BEGINS IN THE GOLDEN STATE, ALL BECAUSE OF ME, THE PEOPLE’S GOVERNOR, THE CARTOGRAPHER-IN-CHIEF, WHO WILL NOW LET THE PEOPLE VOTE!!! THANK YOU, USA!!!”

In an interview on Fox News earlier this week, Vice President JD Vance accused Newsom of being inauthentic. “The idea that Gavin Newsom is somehow going to mimic Donald Trump’s style, I think that ignores the fundamental genius of President Trump’s political success, which is that he’s authentic,” Vance said.
“He just is who he is. You got to be yourself. You actually got to talk to people about the issues. I don’t think it’s that complicated,” Vance continued.
In the national struggle over U.S. House control, perhaps no politician has more at stake than the California governor, who has emerged as the leading Democratic adversary to Trump in what many see as a lightly masked trial run for his own future White House bid.
The liberal former San Francisco mayor, who is nearing the end of a spotty tenure in Sacramento, is being cheered by Democrats and party activists who see his scrappy, Trump-mocking, profanity-tinged speeches and snarky social media posts as signs of new life in a party left dispirited and rudderless after 2024 election losses.
Newsom “has been doing what I’ve wanted a Democrat to do for a long time,” radio host Charlamagne Tha God said on his syndicated “Breakfast Club” program. In directly confronting the president, Newsom is “matching energy, and I like it.”
