Gardai are investigating a break-in to a business premises in Foxford town centre in the early hours of this morning.
The incident occurred at the O’Hara’s Cenrta supermarket in the town centre.
It’s understood that the robbers were disturbed during the break-in at about 4am this morning and exited the scene quickly in a car.
They forced their way into the premises through the front door with a crowbar like instrument.
They began filling two large laundry baskets of cigarettes from behind the shop’s tills.
The shop’s alarm was activated during the break-in and members of staff upstairs in the premises quickly came down into the shop. One member of staff managed with a brush to make one of the robbers drop his laundry basket full of stolen cigarettes, close to the door.
The robbers than fled from the scene in a car, driving off in the direction of Station Road.
It’s understood they got away with thousands of euro worth of cigarettes in the second basket.
A car was later discovered crashed and abandoned outside Foxford early this morning.
Garda investigations are ongoing.
