One person has drowned in the Grand River, in a late-summer tragedy in Elora.
Wellington Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) said it happened around 6:30 Sunday evening, at the Bissell Park bridge.
Police said a 29-year-old jumped off the bridge into the Grand, and never came back up.
First responders went into the water, and found their body.
Police said the person from Brampton was pronounced dead at the scene.
The OPP said the victim’s identity will not be released out of respect for the privacy of the family.
And after the coroner attended the scene, the incident was declared non-suspicious.
West Region OPP put out a notice on X around 7:00 that evening, saying officers from the Wellington detachment were responding to “a marine incident.”
At 2:30, Monday morning, a second post announced the investigation at the scene was over, adding a word of thanks to everyone who shared the online appeal for witnesses.
