A man who lost his life in a workplace accident in Buncrana last week has been named as Martin McCallion of Lisnakelly, Buncrana.
Mr McCallion was critically injured at a premises on Thursday last. He passed away in Letterkenny University Hospital on Saturday.
Mr McCallion is being remembered as a gentleman and a dear friend, who will be forever missed by his heartbroken family and friends.
He is survived by his wife Martina, children Joanne (Shane), Christopher (Roberta), Jennifer (Anthony) and Mark, his parents Anna and Barney, his brothers Enda, Gareth, Patrick and Brian and his grandchildren.
Buncrana Golf Club led the tributes to Martin, who was a much-loved and long-standing member of the club.
A spokesperson said: “The heart breaking news was greeted with complete utter shock and disbelief around the club over the weekend of the totally unexpected and untimely passing of our dear friend and golfing colleague Martin McCallion.
“Martin was a loyal and dedicated member of Buncrana Golf Club for many years along with his son Christopher.
“Martin will be fondly remembered not only for his deep commitment but also for his warm friendship, kindness, and the positive spirit he brought to every occasion. His sudden passing is a great loss to our club and community, and he will be sorely missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
“The Buncrana Golf Club committee and members extend our heartfelt sympathies and deepest condolences to the Mc Callion family, friends, and colleagues at this very difficult time – May he rest in peace.”
As a mark of respect, the golf club’s Captains’ Prizes were postponed last weekend to a future date.
Martin will be laid to rest this Thursday 28th August following Requiem Mass at St Mary’s Church Cockhill.
Funeral Details:
Martin’s remains will be reposing at his home Tuesday 26th August from 12 o’clock noon where you are all welcome to pay your respects.
Removal from there on Thursday morning 28th August at 10.15am to St. Mary’s Church, Cockhill for Requiem Mass at 11.00am followed by interment in the adjoining graveyard.
