A police officer has been wounded and there are grave concerns for two other officers after a shooting at a rural property in Porepunkah, about 300 kilometres north-east of Melbourne.
One officer was shot in the thigh while serving a warrant at the property on Tuesday morning. Police are still searching for the offender.
A call for urgent assistance at the property was made at 10.55am.
Police are at the scene and heavily armed officers from the Special Operations Group are en route to the scene near the base of Mount Buffalo in Victoria’s alpine region.
Police said it is still “an active incident” and have asked people to avoid the area.
Locals reported multiple police cars and an ambulance speeding towards Bright with lights and sirens on. Porepunkah residents have also been told to stay indoors while the police operation unfolds.
A Porepunkah business owner said there has been a stream of police cars coming into the small town since 11am.
The shootings are understood to have happened at a remote farming property owned by a couple in their 50s with two daughters.
