Beachgoers watched on in disbelief as a driver got into difficulty while reversing a boat into the sea during a busy bank holiday. The driver had reversed the car onto the beach at Oxwich Bay, Wales, while towing a boat, but appeared to lose control as the vehicle continued backing into the water until it was almost fully submerged.
One witness observing from the water described how the submerged vehicle had to be hauled from the waves by tractor with water “pouring” from its doors.
Watching the drama unfold at Oxwich Bay on Bank Holiday Monday, August 25, she said: “We watched the car pull the boat onto the beach and it then reversed the boat into the sea. For some the car kept going, with all the onlookers questioning why it was going in so far,” reports Wales Online.
She said: “They released boat and trailer and couldn’t get the car to start or move.

“A trailer/tractor looking vehicle had to come and pull it from the sea, with water pouring from the doors as it went. When it was pulled to the beach the car wouldn’t start so it was dragged completely off the beach.
“No one was hurt or injured, was just an unusual thing to see on bank holiday.” For the biggest stories in Wales sign up to our daily newsletter.
The incident at Oxwich Bay comes just days after a car was spotted in the sea at Amroth Beach on Thursday afternoon, August 21.
Beachgoers said it was a mystery how the car got there or why.
One passer-by said: “I honestly don’t know how it got there. There were lots of people on the beach just looking but most people were just getting on with their day, swimming just up from it, in their kayaks. It was bizarre.”
