Get ready, Calgary, because WestJet has just announced they are adding a new Mexico destination to its flight routes this December.

Travellers will be able to catch a direct flight to Puerto Escondido, Mexico, from Calgary, with the route operating once a week throughout the winter travel season.

“Delivering this hidden gem to WestJet’s network is another way we’re fulfilling our promise to give Canadians more unforgettable and affordable getaways,” said WestJet Executive Vice-President and Chief Commercial Officer John Weatherill in a news release.

With this addition, WestJet will now operate 15 non-stop routes between Calgary and Mexico this winter, after the addition of Guadalajara, Tepic (Riviera Nayarit), and Cozumel earlier this year.

Once there, travellers can explore Puerto Escondido’s gorgeous beaches, like Playa Carrizalillo and Playa Zicatela, known worldwide for surfing. The town itself offers lively markets, authentic cuisine, and opportunities for dolphin and whale watching along the Pacific coast.

This will be WestJet’s most robust schedule to Mexico ever, seeing an eight per cent increase in sun destination seat capacity compared to last winter.

“For those looking to trade snow for sunshine, Puerto Escondido offers the perfect escape; a vibrant blend of beautiful beaches, authentic Mexican flavours, world-class surfing and the warm, festive spirit that makes Mexico so special.”

Flights to Puerto Escondido will be available starting Dec. 12, 2025.
