“Teachers are absolute superstars, and I have the best bunch of staff. They have had their kids in lockdown since around 11.30 this morning, they are masters at being able to be creative, to find fun things, to engage the kids and distract,” she said.

“I know that there’s a few different activities going on, so I think we’ve got movies going on and some coding. There might even be some touch typing going on down there. Look, they’re brilliant. Our teachers are amazing, and kids are super resilient.”
The school’s lunch orders were unable to be delivered from the local roadhouse, and staff adapted by making sandwiches for pupils.
When asked if the school was prepared to go into lockdown overnight, Gillies replied: “Look, we would be able to if we needed to. We have food and we’ve got access to toilets and, you know, comfort items. Let’s hope that it doesn’t come to that.”
