Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for most of Vancouver Island for a long duration of above seasonal temperatures.
The special weather statement has been issued for East and Inland Vancouver Island until mid-week.
“However, cooler temperatures overnight will give some relief from the heat,” Environment Canada says in the statement.
“The very warm conditions are expected to persist until Thursday when cloud cover is expected.”
People are advised to consider rescheduling outdoor activities to the morning or evening hours when temperatures will be cooler.
“Watch for the effects of heat illness: heavy sweating, rash, cramps, fainting, high body temperature and the worsening of some health conditions,” the statement says.
“Never leave susceptible people, particularly children, or pets inside a parked vehicle.”
People in overheated areas are advised to seek a cool place like a tree-shaded area, splash pad, misting station, or air-conditioned spot like a public building.
