The RCMP says it has found stolen property, including an ATV, following a case of looting in Conception Bay North.

RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey told CBC News on Monday efforts are underway to identify the property and return it to its rightful owners.

“The investigation continues at this time,” he said over email.

Last week, CBC News reported on a missing ATV after Eric and Karen Parsons found out their home in Ochre Pit Cove had been ransacked sometime during the Kingston wildfire evacuations.

At the time, O’Donaghey said the RCMP received three reports of suspected thefts, though the same problem exists in all three cases — it’s difficult to know what’s missing when the homeowners aren’t allowed in to take stock of their belongings.

“We do know that it’s frustrating for the evacuees when they find out information like this, and it can be very upsetting and devastating, especially when you just want to know if your home is OK,” O’Donaghey said in a previous interview.

“But it does remain incredibly dangerous inside those evacuated areas, and we are working with our partners at moving forward trying to get everyone safely home as soon as we can.”
