Residents of the Lios na Circe housing estate in Castlebar want an urgent investigation into the potential cause of Carbon Monoxide alarms being activated over the weekend in their homes.

On Saturday multiple houses in the estate experienced Carbon Monoxide alarm activations, which prompted emergency responses from the Gardaí, fire service, gas services and the drainage of the local sewer system.

The residents have contacted their local representatives outlining their ongoing “deep concerns”, including that carbon monoxide alarms also  went off in multiple unrelated properties in the locality over the last number of days.

Residents say they are grateful for the swift response of the authorities on Saturday , but need explanations and further investigations into the reason why their alarms were activated.

Midwest news contacted Mayo County Council this morning for a response.

In  statement it says it can confirm that over the past weekend, carbon monoxide alarms were triggered in several homes within the Lios na Circa Housing Estate. “Both the Fire Service and Engineers from the Castlebar Municipal District responded promptly, and investigations into the cause are ongoing. We remind all households of the importance of maintaining their carbon monoxide alarms and to vacate the premises immediately if an alarm sounds. Only return once it has been confirmed safe to do so”

Independent  councillor  Michael Kilcoyne was in the estate on Saturday and has been there again today and spoke to Midwest News Editor Teresa O’Malley…
