Letterkenny Gardaí have launched an investigation after a car mounted a footpath in the town and struck another vehicle following an attempted theft in the town last week.
Three men can be seen on a video, widely circulated on social media, attacking a car with their fists while another person was inside at Lower Main Street last Wednesday evening at around 5pm. The driver proceeded to mount the footpath in an attempt to get away, before striking a litter bin and a parked vehicle before making off.
It is understood the trio got into another car and went in pursuit of the attacked vehicle.
Gardaí confirmed they are investigating the incident, adding that no injuries were reported.
“Gardaí received a report of a two-vehicle road traffic collision and the subsequent attempted unauthorised taking of car at Lower Main Street, Letterkenny, Co Donegal, at approximately 5:00pm on 20th August,” a garda spokesperson said.
A technical examination of the scene was carried by the Divisional Scenes of Crime Unit and investigations are ongoing.
