The versatile youngster is tracking well in his recovery from a back injury.
Hawthorn young gun Josh Weddle has received some positive news on the injury front, with scans this week paving the way for a return following a back injury which has sidelined him since Round 16.
High Performance Manager Peter Burge confirmed that the 21-year-old would be considered for selection in this week’s VFL Qualifying Final against Southport at Box Hill City Oval on Saturday afternoon.
Harry Morrison will have to wait another week to prove his fitness ahead of the club’s AFL final next week, while Noah Mraz has unfortunately been ruled out for another two weeks as he battles a hamstring injury.
Burge also provided updates on Finn Maginness and Will Day’s recoveries from a kidney and foot injury, respectively.
Josh Weddle – Back (Test)
“Josh Weddle had a scan on Monday and the results were very good. He has now been cleared to return to match play. He resumed some training with the group last week and he will fully train this week. We are considering him for selection for the VFL Final on Saturday but we’ll make a decision on that as a match committee later in the week.”
Harry Morrison – Quad (1 week)
“Harry Morrison has improved and is resuming some faster running this week, and we’re looking to progress back into training at the start of next week. He’ll be a test for next week at this stage.”
Noah Mraz – Hamstring (2 weeks)
“Noah Mraz resumed full training last week and unfortunately suffered a minor hamstring issue out of the main session on Friday which now will delay his return, unfortunately. We’ve set a timeline of at least missing the next two games but also given he’s a young, developing athlete, we’ll continue to assess and make a decision as to his availability, providing the VFL team are still going during that finals series. He’s back running, which is really positive. We’ll just continue to reassess and monitor his progress over the next week or two and we’ll update everyone on his plans.”
Finn Maginness – Kidney (Season)
“Finn’s off-season program has commenced. He has started some running and conditioning, which is fantastic.”
Will Day – Foot (Season)
“Will Day is back doing stair walking as well as strength work and other reconditioning activities. We’ll keep reassessing his progress but he’s feeling great and we are moving towards starting his off-season program, which will progress to a full pre-season.”
