AFL Midfield and Strategy Coach Sam Radford has accepted a position with the West Coast Eagles.
Melbourne AFL Midfield and Strategy Coach Sam Radford will depart the club after making the decision to return to Perth with his family and accept a position with the West Coast Eagles.
Radford joined the Demons in 2016, first working alongside AFLW Senior Coach Mick Stinear in the inaugural season, and as a VFL assistant for the Casey Demons.
He then moved full-time into the VFL program, taking on the senior coaching duties for two seasons before transitioning to the AFL program ahead of the 2020 campaign.
It was here Radford held roles across development, opposition strategy and education, adding midfield responsibilities this past season.
General Manager of AFL Football Performance Alan Richardson thanked Radford for his impact over the past decade.
“Sam has made a great contribution to the club across several of our football programs,” Richardson said.
“He started with Mick and our AFLW program, had a significant role in the development of players at Casey, and then transitioned into our AFL program where his knowledge and strategic thinking have been first class.
“Sam has worked across multiple programs and played a really important role in how we educate our players with our game style and strategy.
“While we will miss having him in the red and blue, we understand the importance of family and fully support his decision to head back to Perth.
“We wish Sam, his wife Ange and their kids all the very best for the future.”
