Unfortunately for the Englishman, his wife of eight years, Clare, wasn’t there by his side to celebrate his $10-million US breakthrough. She was at home in the United Arab Emirates, watching her husband’s moment of glory on TV.

While Clare was noticeably absent from the festivities, she previously had revealed that making public appearances with her husband made her feel paranoid for one reason in particular: Their age gap.
Clare, 57, is 23 years older than the golf star, who turned 34 earlier this year. She opened up about her feelings on the issue during an appearance on the Performance People podcast in 2023.
“It kind of is and isn’t. I mean, it was way more at the beginning,” she said of the couple’s age gap and the public perception putting a strain on the relationship.

“It was kind of not actually for us, but it was just again thinking what other people are thinking about all the time and within the industry. It was kind of big news in our circle, so I was a little bit paranoid about all that, really. But not for any reason of our relationship and I had full faith once we fell in love.”

Fleetwood met Clare in 2015 through his brother with Clare going on to serve as the golfer’s agent before becoming involved romantically. The couple were married two years later.
She said she initially turned down his advances, mainly due to their difference in age.
“We’ve got a 23-year age difference,” she said. “Of course, I turned him down. I was like, ‘Don’t be stupid.’”
Clare also has two older children from a previous marriage. Her and Tommy share a son, Frankie, who was born in 2017.

Clare still manages her husband’s golf career, which she said allows her to see different aspects of the new PGA Tour champion.
“I know everything on every side — so there’s the sponsorship side, the logistics side, the PR side, the accounts side, everything,” Clare said.
“Maybe sometimes too much, you know, because then that’s all I think about sometimes, but that’s just the different dynamic. I look at one question — it might have 15 answers for me. Do you know what I mean? It’s a little bit more complicated for me because I see things, you know, like, are we going to live?

Fleetwood, who previously had blown final-round leads at the Travelers Championship and the FedEx St. Jude Championship earlier this summer, was able to hold on for a three-stroke victory on Sunday.
He shot a 2-under 68 to win the tournament over Patrick Cantlay and Russell Henley.
“It’s easy to say you’re resilient, but it’s hard when you have to be,” Fleetwood said. “I feel lucky I’ve had to show that side of myself. And I feel lucky that it’s paid off.”
