Spotlight on Humanitarian Aid and Disaster Preparedness in Bangladesh
We invite you to apply for the upcoming media trip to Bangladesh, organised by the European Union’s Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations from 16 to 21 November 2025.Â
Bangladesh currently hosts over 1.2 million Rohingya refugees who have fled targeted violence and severe human rights violations in neighbouring Myanmar. Most live in overcrowded camps in Cox’s Bazar. With restricted freedom of movement and no legal access to employment, they are forced to rely almost entirely on international aid for survival.
The European Union plays a critical role in providing a lifeline, but global cuts in humanitarian funding have hit this vulnerable population particularly hard. Without immediate and sustained support, essential services like food, education, and health, risk being scaled back, further worsening the already dire living conditions in the camps.
Seasonal flooding, tropical cyclones, and landslides – intensified by climate change and environmental degradation – pose additional threats to both refugees and host communities. Over the years, Bangladesh – one of the most disaster-prone countries in the world – has built robust disaster preparedness and risk management systems that have proven effective in saving lives. Nevertheless, the densely populated camps in Cox’s Bazar remain particularly vulnerable.
This media trip offers a unique opportunity to witness the situation in Cox’s Bazar first-hand, where the EU supports a broad range of humanitarian activities including food security, health and nutrition, education, protection, shelter and settlements, water/sanitation/hygiene, and disaster preparedness. Journalists will engage directly with affected communities and observe EU-funded humanitarian operations implemented by long-standing partner organisations.Â
Deadline for registration:Â 7 Â September 2025, 17:00 CET.
Please note that after expressing your interest, we will review your application. If you are accepted, our team will contact you with more information concerning the programme and logistical arrangements.
