An attempted late-night kidnapping of two young women off the street in Mississauga has led to the arrest of one man and sent police on the hunt for two others.
Investigators with Peel Regional Police say the three masked men who chased and then tried to grab the women as they walked near Britannia Road West and Queen Street South in the Streetsville area of the city just before 10:30 p.m. on June 24 may have been armed with a gun and a knife.
A passerby intervened and the victims escaped without physical injuries, police said, adding the masked men fled the area in a light-coloured Audi SUV that headed westbound on Britannia Road West.
Subsequent investigation led police to an arrest on Aug. 18. A Toronto (Etobicoke) man faces nearly three dozen charges.
Meanwhile, police remain on the hunt for two other men described as Middle Eastern, in their late teens to mid-20s with medium builds.

Police said the two women were initially approached by three men who tried to lure them into the luxury SUV. They then gave chase to the pair before the passerby intervened.
Reports indicated to investigators one of the men may have been armed with a gun while another possibly carried a knife.
Waleed Khan, 26, of Etobicoke, has been charged with 33 offences related to kidnapping, firearms, auto theft and more, police said.
The search of a home led to the seizure by police of two loaded prohibited firearms — an AR-style rifle capable of automatic fire and a pistol, both equipped with prohibited high-capacity magazines along with over 110 rounds of ammunition, according to investigators.

At the time of his arrest, Khan was on probation for prior violent offences and prohibited from possessing firearms, police said. He has since been released with an ankle monitor, they added.
Investigators say if anyone spots the other two suspects, they’re advised not to approach them, but to call 911 right away.
The light-coloured Audi SUV also remains outstanding, police said.
Anyone with information about this investigation, including the whereabouts of the remaining suspects and suspect vehicle, is asked to contact police at 905-453–2121, ext. 1133, or Peel Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477.
