The Met Office has issued an eight-hour weather warning for six parts of Wales. The yellow warning for rain was issued on Thursday morning and is in place for eight hours, until 4pm. According to the forecasting agency, the areas affected can expect heavy rain, accompanied by thunder and hail at times.
The “heavy and frequent” rain may cause flooding and transport disruption. The six parts of Wales affected by the warning are: Bridgend, Merthyr Tydfil, Neath Port Talbot, Powys, Rhondda Cynon Taf and Swansea.
According to Met Office weather maps, there is a chance that some parts of Wales could see 16-32mm of rain fall in just one hour. For the biggest stories in Wales first, sign up to our daily newsletter here
A Met Office forecast said: “Scattered blustery showers developing across the region, potentially heavy with thunder and hail at times.
“Persistent heavy showers are likely to continue to feed in across the region, from the Bristol Channel, for the next several hours.
“They will tend to become less frequent later this afternoon as the wind direction changes from southwesterly to westerly.”

The forecasters warned that flooding of homes and business is possible due to the rain.
It is also likely that journey times will be longer due to spray and flooding on roads.
There could also be some interruption to power supplies.
Although the weather warning has only been issued for Thursday, it doesn’t seem like the weather will get much better in the coming days.
The forecast for Friday states: “Another day of showers, which again have the potential to be heavy and thundery. Temperatures holding around the late August average in any sunnier interludes, but remaining blustery. Maximum temperature 20°C.”
The Met Office also says there will be “more prolonged rain” on Saturday, accompanied by strong winds.
On Sunday and Monday, forecasters say there will be a “return to sunshine and blustery showers”
