Regional police says one of its officers was nearly struck by a vehicle on Wednesday night and used their firearm during the incident.
HRP says two officers were outside their vehicle on Main Avenue in Fairview around 7 p.m. when a vehicle they had attempted to stop for driving erratically suddenly accelerated toward one of them.
Police say the officer then drew their firearm and shot the side of the vehicle twice before the driver fled. The officers were not injured.
Officers mistakenly arrested four people a short time later near Joseph Howe Drive and they were released when police realized they weren’t involved.
In an update on Thursday morning police say two people were arrested around 1 a.m., although there was no word on charges. The two people were not injured by the shooting, police added.
Police say the incident is being referred to the Serious Incident Response Team – the province’s police watchdog – for investigation.
