A young man has been brutally stabbed to death at a busy Sydney bus terminal overnight was asked if he belonged to a street gang right before the attack.

Emergency services rushed to Mount Druitt interchange on North Parade, beside the train station, just after 10.10pm on Wednesday after reports of two injured teens.

On arrival, police found two 19-year-old men who were suffering from stab wounds after being attacked by a masked group of four.

They have since been identified as Zac McRae and Vimlesh Chand, by The Sydney Morning Herald.

Mr McRae was treated by paramedics for stab wounds to his chest, but could not be revived. A report will be prepared for the Coroner.

Mr Chand sustained stab wounds to his arm and was treated by paramedics before being taken to Westmead Hospital in a stable condition.

Mount Druitt police area commander Darrin Batchelor told reporters Mr Chand was ‘extremely lucky’ to survive the ‘violent, frenzied attack’.

There was a third, unnamed person with them who was assaulted but not severely injured.

A crime scene has been established and police from Mount Druitt Area Command are investigating with assistance from the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad.

Police could be seen blocking the view of the 19-year-olds and a significant area of the bus interchange was blocked by police tape on Thursday morning.

One attacker asked Mr McRae, ‘Are you 67?’: a reference to a gang that belongs to the suburb of Doonside and that takes its name from the postcode 2767, the Sydney Morning Herald reported.

No arrests have been made.

Police said they are looking into tensions between 67 and a rival gang from Mount Druitt but have yet to make any links with the teens or alleged attackers.

It is understood McRae was known to police for alleged violent offences and on bail.

The bail related to multiple offences, including assault occasioning actual bodily harm in company and demanding property in company.

Anyone with information about this incident has been urged by officers to contact Crime Stoppers online or at 1800 333 000.
