Fires broke out at two oil refineries in Russia’s Krasnodar and Samara regions after attacks by Ukrainian drones.
At the Afipsky refinery in Krasnodar Krai, debris from a downed drone ignited one of the processing units, according to the regional emergency headquarters. The fire covered about 20 square meters (215 square feet).
Videos posted online appeared to show flames at the facility.
In Samara, a fire erupted at the Kuibyshev oil refinery, according to the Telegram channels Astra and Exelinova+. Footage showed thick black smoke billowing over the plant. Local officials have not commented on reports of a strike.
Russia’s Defense Ministry said air defenses intercepted 102 drones overnight across several regions, including 21 each over Rostov and Samara, 18 over Krasnodar Krai, and two over Volgograd.
Ukraine has intensified its strikes on Russian refineries in recent weeks. According to Reuters, as of August 25, attacks on 10 refineries had disrupted at least 17 percent of Russia’s refining capacity.
