A 26-year-old North Bay resident is dead following a head-on collision with a commercial vehicle on Highway 17 in Sudbury on Wednesday.
The incident took place at approximately 6:25 p.m., causing the highway to close in both directions at Highway 69 north of McFarlane Lake Road for several hours.
Members from the Nipissing West (Sudbury) Detachment of the OPP, Fire Services and Emergency Medical Services responded to the two-vehicle collision, which involved a commercial motor vehicle and a passenger vehicle, according to an OPP media release.
The driver of the passenger vehicle, a 26-year-old from North Bay, was pronounced deceased at the scene and no injuries were reported to the CMV driver. Police did not release the victim’s name.
The highway was closed in both directions for just over eight hours.
The investigation is still ongoing with the assistance of the OPP Collision Reconstructionist and the Traffic Collision Investigation Team to determine the cause of the collision.
