It’s a cracking 10-race card for San Domenico Stakes day at Rosehill and I’m going to have something on a galloper at huge odds in the last.
Wild Thoughts (7) is a promising horse out of Kerry Parker’s stable. Tricky barrier and it is hard for these lightly raced horses stepping up to Midway company, but I’ll back the class shining through.
Monkhana (4) was a good improver second-up when recording a win in this grade. She’s still got room to improve being third-up here but does rise in weight.
Sunset Park (5) will be up on the speed but might have to do a bit of work early after drawing a double digit barrier.
Starphistocated (10) next best.
Verdict: Wild Thoughts (7) to win.
Nova Centauri (13) showed a good bit of fight to get up at Scone last start. The barrier here does make it tough, but she’s got room to improve still and with only 55.5kg on her back, looks the one that’s over the odds.
Solitario (3) hasn’t run a bad race in five starts. Gallant in defeat last time out. Draws to do no work from barrier one with James McDonald in the saddle.
Warrior For Peace (4) gets here off a short let up. Has some super runs on the resume and his most recent in Highway company would have him in the finish here.
Unreachable (11) next best.
Verdict: Nova Centauri (13) each-way.
Looked like the wheels were spinning on Amreekiyah (7) last time out at the 250m before she picked back up and hit the line strongly. Think she can be a much more effective horse on a dry track and the way it’s going, Rosehill will probably be a Good 4 on Saturday.
Sister Daae (8) has been racing without much luck at her last few. Blinkers have been applied for this and she gets the addition of James McDonald in the saddle.
Sacred Rocks (1) is racing in good form. She’s been up for a while but will appreciate the drying surface. Same barrier and jockey she had last start.
Sunshine Law (6) raced a bit flat second-up but can improve here.
Verdict: Amreekiyah (7) is the best bet of the day.
Nkosi (9) is a promising galloper out of Bjorn Baker’s yard that was a big winner at his first Australian start. Should be able to punch forward here from barrier two and be hard to run down again.
Captain Furai (4) got too far back last start at Rosehill. Can improve here.
Starman (8) will do what he does. Get back and run on strongly without winning.
Anythink Goes (6) continues to race well without winning.
Verdict: Nkosi (9) to win again.
Travolta’s (1) last start run was as good as the winner, Amusing (3). Gets a weight swing on that galloper, draws a good barrier and should enjoy the extra distance, albeit only a slight rise.
Hard to knock Amusing (3), given she’s going super. The drying track is probably against her though.
Soldier Of Rome (5) should be at his peak third-up from a spell. Will be up on the pace and giving his all.
Tazima (11) next best.
Verdict: Travolta (1) to win.
Providence (2) is a three start maiden but has shown the signs of a very promising galloper. Last seen in the G1 JJ Atkins when running fourth to Cool Archie and he’s trialled up super leading into the first-up run. The booking of J-Mac would have to be some lead too, given he’s ridden all three stablemates.
Aerodrome (1) won his first two starts before heading up to Queensland when not much went his way. Has been prepared for this with three trials and has looked sharp in all of them.
Fermoy (8) has the benefit of a run under his belt when resuming at this track and distance.
Grand Prairie (3) has some hope too.
Verdict: Providence (2) to win.
Roselyn’s Star (3) was soft in betting when resuming but I thought he came back super. Was wide and first-up off a lengthy break on a heavy track but stuck on gamely for fourth, beaten under a length. He looks the bet here.
Polyglot (6) just couldn’t catch a fit and in form mare first-up on the heavy but ran well. Should taken plenty of improvement into this run and be hard to hold out.
Dance To The Boom (8) is promising. Big watch on her first-up.
Without Parallel (10) created a big impression when discarding of a Highway field on a Heavy 10 last start. Now steps up to a proper Saturday race and onto a dry track. Has to drift.
Verdict: Roselyn’s Star (3) to win.
I think Beiwacht (3) is underrated big time. Dominant winner of the Silver Slipper before not much went his way at two subsequent starts. Has trialled up super and I reckon he’s one that will improve a few lengths at three.
Raging Force (7) was a beaten favourite on debut in the Breeders before returning in the winter and winning three straight. Did them all by big margins and looked like a stakes horse in the making.
Wodeton (5) had a stack of hype as a juvenile and the gloss has no doubt come off since. He’s still a very talented horse that will make his presence felt here.
Watch for Rivellino (2) late. He’s certainly a Golden Rose horse.
Verdict: Beiwacht (3) best value of the day.
Thought Palmetto (3) ran well first-up behind War Eternal. He’s got a super record at the trip and in a wide open race, can break through for a win.
Mchale (7) flies first-up. Hasn’t raced in a long time but he’s been prepared with three trials and gets J-Mac in the saddle.
Plenty of hype with Half Yours (13) following his win up in Queensland. Drawn the carpark here, so he’ll need plenty of luck.
Converge (6) has been finding it hard to win a race but he continues to find his way into the finish. Hasn’t raced since January but will be fit following three trials.
Verdict: Palmetto (3) each-way.
Haven’t seen a better $61 chance than Geriatrix (4) in quite some time. Thought it was a sneaky good run first-up from a break on the heavy when he got back and raced in the worst part of the track but hit the line super. Has barrier 15 here but there’s heaps of speed in the race and he’ll appreciate the 3kg claim for Siena Grima.
Lord Of Biscay (3) hasn’t been sighted since his runner up finish in the Provincial-Midway Championships Final. Goes well first-up but will just need a bit of luck from a wide barrier.
Perfurmist (10) got a bit too fired up last start. If she settles here, she can be a big improver. That’s the gamble with her though.
Colourful Emperor (6) is an interesting galloper that comes from Hong Kong. Looks to have a bit of class about him but will no doubt improve for having the run.
Verdict: Geriatrix (3) each-way in the quaddie closer.
