According to the search warrant, the ammunition used was 5.56x45mm, which is used with standard-issue assault rifles by the U.S. military.
MINNEAPOLIS — A search warrant revealed Robin Westman used an AR-15-style rifle and ammunition widely used by militaries in Wednesday’s mass shooting at Annunciation Catholic Church.
Officials say a 17DM-15 semi-automatic was recovered at the scene, along with a 9mm pistol and a 12-gauge shotgun, after police say Westman fired 119 shots from outside the church, killing two people and injuring 18 others, including 15 kids. The ammunition used was 5.56x45mm, which is used with standard-issue assault rifles by the U.S. military.
The search warrant also revealed a 2×4 piece of wood near a door to the church wth a smoke canister attached to it. Two vehicles were also seized from the scene, including a van registered to the shooter’s father that police believe Westman drove to the church.Â
Police also searched the shooter’s father’s home on 1st Ave. S in Minneapolis and recovered a tactical vest and two external storage devices. When police spoke to Westman’s father, he told them that the shooter had been staying with a friend in St. Louis Park following a recent breakup with a significant other at the apartment they shared in Richfield. Police searched the Richfield and St. Louis Park homes, but the warrants have not yet been filed.
The shooter also had a manifesto that appeared in a series of two videos pre-scheduled to post on YouTube following the shooting. The more than 50-page journal details the shooter’s plans to carry out the shooting. The two children killed have been identified as 8-year-old Fletcher Merkel and 10-year-old Harper Moyski.
According to Children’s Minnesota, seven kids between the ages of 9 and 16 were admitted, and six have been discharged. In an update on Friday, HCMC said they are caring for six victims, including five children. One child remains in critical condition, and the other four are in satisfactory condition. One adult remains in serious condition, according to the HCMC update.
The manifesto also referenced fantasies of violence, and on May 23, 2025, the shooter wrote an entry recalling a long-time obsession with mass shootings, specifically school shootings, dating back to the 7th grade.Â
Officials also seized two vehicles — a van and a car — that were parked near the church at the time of the shooting.
A search warrant says the van was parked in the back parking lot and was registered to the shooter’s father. A cell phone was visible inside the vehicle, as well as documents belonging to the shooter and the father of the shooter.
