Canada’s Olympic orientation camp concluded on Thursday, but Edmonton Oilers forward Connor McDavid continues to remain in Calgary.

McDavid was one of 42 NHL players who gathered in Calgary this week to take part in Hockey Canada’s Olympic orientation camp in preparation for Milano Cortina 2026. The Oilers captain was arguably the biggest draw of the star-studded cast, as his future in Edmonton continues to remain a question mark as he gets to enter the final year of his contract.

When speaking with reporters, the 28-year-old made it clear that he wants to win in Edmonton and is in no rush to sign an extension. He seemed quite relaxed about the entire ordeal, and based on what we saw on Friday morning, that appears to be the case.

Rather than stressing about his contract situation behind the scenes, McDavid chose to stay in Calgary following the conclusion of the orientation camp. That allowed him to hit the ice with some of the game’s best talent, including the likes of Cale Makar, Josh Morrissey, and Travis Konecny.

As you can imagine, the fact that McDavid, who could become a UFA next summer, was skating in Calgary created plenty of jokes for Flames fans.

“McDavid to Calgary confirmed,” one user wrote on an NHL Reddit page.

McDavid was able to have another successful season in 2024-25, hitting the 100-point mark for the eighth time. He was also able to record 33 points in 22 playoff outings, though it wasn’t quite enough, as the Oilers fell in the Stanley Cup Final to the Florida Panthers for the second consecutive year.

You can bet both losses are on McDavid’s mind each and every day as he continues to prepare himself for the 2025-26 season.
