Two men have been arrested following burglary and dangerous driving incidents in the midwest.

Gardaí were alerted to a burglary at a residence in the Parkmore area of Roscrea, Co Tipperary at around 4.20am.

They say similar incidents have since been reported in the Parkmore area.

Gardaí in Co Clare were then alerted to an attempted burglary at a commercial premises on Convent Hill in Killaloe at around 5.45am.

During that incident, gardaí said a vehicle deliberately collided with a garda patrol car.

Gardaí followed the vehicle into Ballina and towards Birdhill and a number of items were thrown at the patrol car.

Then gardaí said the vehicle was driven dangerously down the M7, travelling southbound in the northbound carriageway.

The vehicle was stopped at the Golf Links Road in Ballysimon, Co Limerick with help from the Armed Support Unit.

The two men, aged in their 40s and 20s, were arrested at the scene.

Gardaí seized a number of reported stolen items and the vehicle.

The vehicle was removed for a technical examination.

Gardaí said none of their members were injured during the incident, and they are appealing for witnesses.

They are asking anyone who may have camera footage, including dash-cam, in the Roscrea, Co Tipperary and Killaloe, Co Clare areas between 3am and 6am to contact them.

Gardaí are also appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the movements of a Laois (LS) registered black BMW 520 in these areas in the early hours of this morning.
