Police have charged a 29-year-old B.C. man in the death of a woman who was discovered in medical distress on a northeast pathway in Calgary last December.

In the early morning of Dec. 9, 2024 a passerby came across 23-year-old Jelisa Maschki injured on the Nose Creek Pathway, near the 1100 block of of 32nd Avenue N.E.

Maschki was taken to hospital in life-threatening condition, but died of her injuries.

Her death was considered undetermined following an autopsy. Calgary police did not reveal the nature of her injuries at the time, but said they believed her death was the result of a “fatal altercation” that took place the evening prior between 9 and 11 p.m.

Now, police have charged Nehemiah Walter John Oslund of Cranbrook, B.C. with one count of manslaughter.

Investigators do not believe Oslund and Maschki knew each other, but police said in a media release they had a “brief interaction along the pathway, which led to the incident.”

Oslund was taken into custody in B.C. and will be transferred to Alberta, where he will face his next court date, police said.
