Manchester United fans have slammed one player for their performance against Burnley despite Ruben Amorim’s side picking up a dramatic victory. The Red Devils managed to claim their first three points of the Premier League season as Bruno Fernandes converted a controversial penalty late in second-half stoppage time to vanquish some of the nightmare of the midweek defeat to Grimsby.
While the hosts dominated the contest from a statistical standpoint, they were still made to scratch and claw for victory as Burnley showed grit and spirit to keep themselves in the game after going behind twice. But that wasn’t enough for many United fans to give one player in particular a pass.
Diogo Dalot Slammed By Fans
The one change that was made in the starting XI from the game against Fulham saw Patrick Dorgu drop to the bench and Diogo Dalot slot in at left wing-back. The Portuguese international, however, failed to impress the United faithful, despite the fact he managed to grab an assist for Bryan Mbeumo’s goal.
The defender completed 81% of his passes and lost possession an incredible 23 times in a wasteful performance. He also won just six of 11 duels, despite completing 100% of his battles in the air, while managing to find the target with 33% of his crosses.
As a result, fans did not hold back with their thoughts online, with one supporter saying: “How can you start Dalot? It’s 100% Portuguese favoritism. He has cost us countless goals yet still gets picked. What has Dorgu done wrong?”
A second added: “Amorim’s obsession with Mount and Dalot will cost him his job,” while a third said: “Dalot will cost Amorim his job.”
A fourth went into more detail with their frustration, saying: “Diogo Dalot is the worst defender I’ve ever seen! How has this guy fooled 5 consecutive managers into selecting him? He’s the worst right back we’ve ever had! He got ETH sacked with a penalty for West Ham & I thought he was doing the same today with his woeful defending!”
A fifth added the nail in the coffin for the full-back by saying: “Dalot’s defensive IQ is genuinely shocking. Scan ffs why are you following the ball like an idiot.”
