Leeds United have the opportunity to make their own history in the Premier League this season.

Leeds salvaged a point against Newcastle United at Elland Road on Saturday, 30 August.

The Whites have had a mixed bag since their promotion back into the Premier League. While Leeds’ opening win against Everton provided reason for optimism, the games that followed have indicated that relegation for Leeds remains a possibility.

As such, in the final days of the transfer window, United are looking to end on a high. However, their most recent target could bring more than just talent to the first division.

Leeds could sign Eduard Spertsyan before the summer transfer window closes.

The Russian-born attacking midfielder played briefly under Farke before who managed at his current club FC Krasnodar for a short period in 2022.

If Spertsyan joins United, he would become the second Armenian player to play in the Premier League. This follows Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who played for Manchester United.

Mkhitaryan signed for Man United on 6 July 2016 before leaving for Arsenal on 22 January 2020The Armenian midfielder made 63 appearances for Man United and 59 for Arsenal The 36-year-old currently plays for Italian giants Inter Milan

After their struggles to sign an attacking midfielder, bringing in a talented midfielder into the fold who has worked under him before could provide enough of an attacking boost.

Spertsyan is set to start for Krasnodar when they take on CSKA Moscow in the Russian Premier League on Sunday, 31 August.

While this could be cause for concern, fans see it as a sign of loyalty from the attacking midfielder. In response to a Leeds fan via X on 31 August, an Armenian football update account insisted the decision was simply professionalism.

It doesn’t mean anything, he was scheduled to be in the squad since yesterday, he made the trip, he’s very loyal, even if he has to leave he’ll play his last game to the fullest. But let’s not get too excited, no offers have been sent to Krasnodar at the moment, from what I know.

As a result, the signing of another professional, loyal player at Elland Road could do wonders for Leeds.

While few top clubs have taken a chance on Spertsyan yet, United could pave the way as the club that took a leap of faith, which paid off.
