Liverpool are close to signing Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi on deadline day, according to Daily Mail journalist Lewis Steele.
The Reds have been strongly linked with a move to sign a new central defender all summer, after a busy window that has seen them bring in Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike and Giovanni Leoni, while goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili also arrived after signing last summer from Valencia.
But with Virgil Van Dijk a year older, Ibrahima Konate in the final year of his contract, Joe Gomez’s injury record and the sale of Jarell Quansah, Arne Slot wants another centre-back and it looks like Guehi is the man.
Liverpool ‘Closer’ to Guehi Agreement

Guehi, who has been described as a “superstar”, is in the final year of his contract at Selhurst Park but has so far been an ever-present for Oliver Glasner’s side this season, even scoring in Sunday night’s 3-0 win over Aston Villa with a stunning curled effort from the edge of the penalty area.
But with less than 24 hours remaining in the window, Liverpool are now edging closer to an agreement with the Eagles over a deal to sign their captain before the 7pm deadline on Monday.
Palace are said to be holding out for a deal worth £35m plus a further £5m in add-ons, while Liverpool have bid a flat £35m. But Anfield bosses are ‘definitely active’ in the final hours of the window, and journalist Steele has revealed that he has been told there is a ‘good chance’ of a deal happening.
Guehi has already agreed personal terms over a move to Liverpool this summer and has prioritised them over other interested clubs this summer, and it now seems as though he will finally get his wish.
Liverpool are also still pursuing a deal to sign Newcastle striker Alexander Isak before the deadline, in what would be a British record transfer.
