LIVERPOOL’S SPENDING SPREE CONTINUES WITH RECORD-BREAKING DEAL

According to multiple reports out of the UK, Newcastle United has agreed to a British record £130m ($A268m) deal with Liverpool for striker Alexander Isak.

Isak is set to travel to Liverpool on Tuesday for a medical but a full agreement is reportedly in place to see the Swedish striker link up with the Premier League champions on a six-year contract.

The deal surpasses the £115m ($A237m) Chelsea paid Brighton for Moises Caicedo in the summer of 2023.

Newcastle were reportedly holding out for £150 million ($A310m) for Isak, who publicly voiced his desire to leave and was yet to feature this season despite being under contract with Newcastle until 2028.

Isak’s arrival continues a spending spree for Liverpool, who spent £116 million ($A240m) with add-ons (AU$241 million) on German midfielder Florian Wirtz, plus £79 million (AU$164 million) for French forward Hugo Ekitike.

OTHER BIG DEALS TO KEEP AN EYE ON AHEAD OF THE DEADLINE

* Newcastle is now targeting both Brentford striker Yoane Wissa and Wolverhampton’s Jorgen Strand Larsen as potential replacements according to The Daily Mail. However, the Wolves are reportedly insisting that Strand Larsen is not up for grabs while Brentford wants to secure a replacement for Wissa before considering selling him.

* Liverpool may not be done with the Reds reportedly hoping an improved bid worth £35m ($A72m) will be enough to sway Crystal Palace to agree to a deal involving Marc Guehi, although Palace boss Oliver Glasner recently said they “have to keep Guehi if we want to play a successful season”.

* Manchester United is on the hunt for a new goalkeeper, per The Athletic, with Emi Martinez a leading target along with Senne Lammens. Gary Neville said on Sky Sports that signing a new goalkeeper must be a “priority” for the Red Devils.

* Staying with United, Jadon Sancho could also be on the way out with Aston Villa said to be keen on the 25-year-old on loan, per ESPN.

* Tottenham could be a team to watch, with Spurs said to have interest in a left winger before the deadline. They had been linked to Manchester City’s Savinho but there hasn’t been much movement since those talks were first reported early last month.
