A Garda probe is underway after a serious threat was made to Tánaiste Simon Harris and his children.
Gardaí are investigating after a threat to Mr Harris and his family was seen on Sunday morning.
The threats, directed at Mr Harris’s children, were posted on social media on Saturday.
It is understood a counter-terror unit is investigating the matter, after Mr Harris alerted gardaí.
A Garda spokesperson confirmed to the Irish Examiner: “An Garda Síochána is currently investigating this matter.”
Confirming the threats, Mr Harris said in a statement on Monday that he finds it unacceptable.
“This weekend, I received direct threats targeting my family. As a father, I have very strong views and feelings on this as you can imagine. As a political leader, I find it unacceptable in every way,” he said.
“Let me be clear: threatening people — any person — is a crime. Threatening children is despicable. It is cowardice and it is a line that no decent society should tolerate being crossed.
“I will not be commenting further at this time on any ongoing Garda investigation.”
It is not the first time Mr Harris has been threatened via social media this year, as protestors have previously showed up outside of his house in Co Wicklow, where he lives with his wife and children.
During previous incidents, masked men gathered outside his property and a bomb threat was directed at his house.
