An inmate at the Grand Valley Institution for Women in Kitchener has escaped according to Correctional Service Canada.

In a statement, the CSC says on August 31 during the 11:30 a.m. count, staff at the minimum security prison could not locate 59-year-old Carolyn Burden.

Waterloo Regional Police have since been contacted and a warrant has been issued for her arrest.

Burden is described as 5’5” and130 Ibs with a fair complexion, blue eyes and brown hair.

Regional police say she was last seen in the area of Homer Watson Boulevard and Manitou Drive in Kitchener.

CSC says she is serving a five-year sentence for fraud over $5,000.

If located, police say do not approach her. Instead call 9-1-1 or WRPS at 519-570-9777.
