Argyle have secured the deadline day signing of central midfielder Law McCabe on a season-long loan from Middlesbrough.

Having come through the academy at Boro, the 19-year-old is extremely highly rated by the Sky Bet Championship club and made his professional debut against Preston North End in 2023.

Currently away with England Under-20s, McCabe is a ball-playing central midfielder who impressed in pre-season for his boyhood team, including starting in a draw against Rangers at Ibrox. He has also represented England at under-18 level.

Argyle Head Coach Tom Cleverley commented upon the announcement: “Law is an exceptional young talent who is highly thought of by everyone at Middlesbrough.

“He is technically very good, excellent on the ball, and will complement the style of play we are looking to implement, perfectly.

“He is currently away with England Under-20s which shows the talent he has at his disposal, and I look forward to working with him when he joins up with the squad after international duty.”

Argyle Head of Football Operations, David Fox, added: “Law will bring a fresh energy to the group and strengthen the midfield options Tom has at his disposal.

“We wanted to bring in a midfielder that complements the other players we have in the building, and in Law we feel we have signed a player that can make a real impact at League One level.

“We wish him well on international duty this week and look forward to seeing him join the group soon.”

The deal is subject to EFL approval.
