Limerick hurlers in the crowd for reunion of The Cranberries at Electric Picnic

LIMERICK hurlers were among the crowd singing along to The Cranberries’ Dreams at Electric Picnic this Sunday.

Hurlers Declan Hannon and Dan Morrisey were in the audience at the popular annual music festival in Stradbally, Co Laois.

They were spotted singing along to the classic song Dreams by The Cranberries in a video shared on social media by Declan’s partner Louise Cantillon, a radio and TV presenter on TodayFM and TG4.

The group appeared to be thoroughly enjoying the highly-anticipated performance.

Original members of The Cranberries, brothers Noel and Mike Hogan, were joined onstage by a surprise guest, Irish singer Dermot Kennedy.

Together, they performed many of the band’s hits, including Zombie and Linger.

This weekend’s performance was the first time the brothers had performed the band’s hits onstage together since The Cranberries’ last performance eight years ago at the London Palladium.

The group disbanded following Dolores O’Riordan’s untimely death in 2018.

The Limerick band first formed in 1989, with Dolores joining the band as the lead singer in 1990.

As well as vocalist Dermot Kennedy, they were accompanied on the Main Stage of the festival by the “rich sounds” of the RTÉ Concert Orchestra for their 3.30pm performance.

The Hogan brothers were not the only Limerick act onstage at the festival this weekend, with Kingfishr, who met while studying at the University of Limerick and refer to the city as their “hometown”, also taking to the stage.

Headliners of the festival, which ran from Friday, August 29 to Sunday, August 31, included Chappell Roan, Hozier, Sam Fender and Kings of Leon.

Festivalgoers also got to see popular acts such as Amble, Conan Gray, Kneecap and The Coronas.
