Beijing’s top local diplomat has recast Australia and China as victorious wartime allies and exaggerated contemporary and historical friction between Canberra and its most significant current security partners, the US and Japan.
Ahead of a major parade in Beijing on Wednesday marking 80 years since the formal end of World War II, Chinese Ambassador to Australia Xiao Qian writes for The Australian Financial Review that the milestone was an “opportunity to draw strength from history for our common progress and to further advance and improve bilateral relations”.
