Fremantle’s 2025 Retro Round jumper is here, with Freo going all the way back to 2003 to celebrate the design of its very first Purple Haze jumper, worn against Richmond in Round 18 at Subiaco Oval.

Fremantle will wear the design in this year’s Retro Round clash with Carlton in Round 21 at Optus Stadium, a match that could help define the top eight.

The Club’s home design at the time was originally updated in 2003 for the Purple Haze game, removing the red and green from the chest and leaving a two-tone purple and white anchor design.

It was the first time in the Club’s history that Freo had worn fewer than four colours in an official game.

The Purple Haze tradition began in 2003, initiated by then-coach Chris Connolly, with Fremantle donning the jumper and raising funds for the Starlight Children’s Foundation in support of sick children and their families. In 2004, Starlight officially partnered with the Club, and the match was formally named the Starlight Purple Haze Game.

By 2011, the tradition evolved further with the introduction of the first official Starlight Purple Haze jumper, with the then Purple Haze jumper undergoing a major design overhaul. Until this day, Fremantle has continued to champion the cause.

Memorably, in the Purple Haze jumper’s first appearance, then-captain Peter Bell put on a masterful performance, gathering 26 disposals and kicking three goals in a game that earned him the three Brownlow votes, as Fremantle prevailed as 23-point victors over the Tigers.

In the jumper’s last official appearance in 2010, mature-age recruit Michael Barlow mesmerised the Subiaco crowd in his first game for Fremantle, racking up a game-high 33 disposals to go with his six marks, four tackles, and two goals in a 56-point thrashing of the Crows.

Crafted in collaboration with Burley Sekem, the on-field and purchasable replica Purple Haze jumpers will have an acrylic knit trim, exactly as featured on the original jumpers from 2003.

Both the traditional and long-sleeve versions of the jumper in men’s, women’s and kids’ sizes are available to purchase online and in-store at The Dock team store.

These items are always in high demand, so get in quick and secure your Retro Round merchandise ahead of our Round 21 clash with Carlton at Optus Stadium.
