Crystal Palace have released a hastily edited ‘Welcome Back’ video for club captain Marc Guehi, just hours after his deadline-day move to Liverpool collapsed.

The video, which supporters quickly noticed bore a suspicious resemblance to a leaked farewell montage, appeared to be the exact same footage played in rewind.

Images showed Guehi walking backwards into Selhurt Park through the exit door and un-kissing the club badge.

Even more baffling was Guehi’s original farewell message which had been badly dubbed over by someone with a thick Austrian accent.

‘I am very happy to be here again’, the Austrian voice declared from Guehi’s mouth.

‘Mr Glasner is the best manager in the Premier League and that’s why I’ve decided to stay at Palace – completely of my own free will.

‘F*** Liverpool’, yelled the voice, before the video ended abruptly by displaying Test Card F with an accompanying stock music track.

Palace officials denied the video was recycled but Paddy Power News sources claim the video was stitched together on Canva in under 15 minutes.

Meanwhile, Palace boss Oliver Glasner said Guehi’s ‘decision’ to stay had safeguarded the club’s future – a future he personally has no intention of sticking around for.

‘Selling Guehi would have left Palace struggling come the end of the season, when I will almost certainly be working somewhere else’, Glasner told us.

Our sources say Glasner was steadfast in his resistance to the Guehi deal, telling Palace’s board no amount of money could justify weakening the squad, before texting his agent: ‘We still good for Old Trafford, bro?’.

But while Palace fans grappled with their manager’s selective loyalty, Liverpool fans erupted with fury, accusing the South London outfit of selfishly prioritising themselves over the Premier League’s established order.

‘It’s disgusting’, ranted one Red.

‘We’ve spent the summer unsettling other club’s players and for Palace to selfishly hold on to their own captain at the last minute – where’s the respect?’
