Broncos legend Darren Lockyer is reportedly flying to England, hoping to negotiate the purchase of a stake in Super League franchise the London Broncos.

According to the SMH, Lockyer and long-time business partner Grant Wechsel will attend the Broncos’ final home game, currently competing in the Championship competition.

London are set to earn promotion to the Super League in 2026, and Lockyer and a consortium reportedly want to purchase a controlling stake in the club.

According to Wechsel, the Broncos are an attractive proposition to grow rugby league’s reach in England’s capital city.

“I’m happy to confirm we’re looking at it,” Wechsel said.

“We think the Super League has a lot of potential. We’re also excited about the NRL looking into it.

“We think that London is missing from the game. Super League needs London. The international game needs London.

“That’s the appeal of it, being part of the success of a league, team and city that has a lot of potential.”

Lockyer and the potential investors have reportedly already began canvasing potential head coaching appointments.

Former Rabbitohs mentor Jason Demetriou has reportedly been identified as the priority target, according to Wechsel, but the club are yet to make an offer to the current PNG head coach.

“I think Jason would be a good target. He’s got NRL experience and he has also played and coached in the Super League,” he said.

As apart of any potential deal, current owner Gary Hetherington will reportedly keep an ownership stake and also be a member of the board.
