Arda Zakarian has the latest details on the second victim who has died because of a house fire in Richmond Hill after an 11-year-old died in hospital.
A 24-year-old woman has died from the injuries she sustained in a house fire in Richmond Hill on Monday, York Regional Police say.
In a news release on Thursday, police confirmed the victim, Helya Bahari-Kashani, died in the hospital the previous day.
She is the second person killed in the fire that has also claimed the life of an 11-year-old girl. Police said the three others, believed to be ages 70, 59, and 42, who were rescued at the scene remain in critical condition.
The fire broke out shortly before 3 a.m. in a residence near Skywood Drive and Rollinghill Road. Officials said crews pulled out four people trapped inside the house, while a fifth person was located outside.
Sources told CP24 earlier this week that all five patients are members of the same family.
A red gas canister was visible underneath a tree near the home at the time of the fire and police confirmed on Wednesday that arson is suspected.
“The incident is being investigated as a homicide,” police said.
Investigators do not have suspect information at this time. They are asking anyone with information to contact them at 1-866-876-5423 ext. 7865 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS.
