In a press conference on Monday, the RCMP says three men have been charged for allegedly helping a high-profile fugitive escape from prison three years ago.
Rabih Alkhalil broke out of the North Fraser Pretrial Centre in Port Coquitlam with the help of two men pretending to be contractors in July 2022.
He’s been on the loose ever since.
Cpl. Sarbjit Sangha, member of the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit of B.C., says that 46-year-old Ryan Van Gool from B.C. has been charged with conspiracy to commit prison breach and prison breach.
Additionally, two other men from Ottawa have been charged with the same.
There have been multiple reports that Alkhalil was arrested in Qatar and that the RCMP will be attempting to bring him back to Canada.
However, Mounties could not confirm Monday whether Alkhalil was, in fact, arrested.
For the past two years, Alkhalil has been on Canada’s Bolo 25 Most Wanted list with the reward for information leading to an arrest as high as $250,000.
As of Monday morning, $50,000 was being offered to potential tipsters.
