A man has died after falling into an empty silo. Emergency services were called to Woodland Avenue in Speke at around 7.20pm on Monday, September 8.

Merseyside Police, Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service and North West Ambulance Service all attended the scene following the incident. It followed a report a 43-year-old man had fallen into an empty silo.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. Merseyside Police said an investigation into the circumstances of his death will be carried out by detectives and the Health and Safety Executive. The man’s next-of-kin have been informed.

Police could be seen on the second floor inside the unit on Monday night. A hazardous response team from MFRS entered the building to entered the building with gas readings indicating normal levels.

A police cordon was put in place and the road was closed and emergency services dealt with the incident. Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service confirmed to the ECHO the man had fallen around 30 feet.

In a statement on Monday, a spokesperson said: “Fire crews have been called to an incident at a factory on Woodend Avenue, Speke, Liverpool this evening.

“Crews were alerted at 7.08pm and on scene at 7.13pm, with two fire engines and the search and rescue team in attendance. Merseyside Police and North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) are also in attendance.

“Crews arrived to find a casualty had fallen approximately 30 feet into an empty silo.

“Merseyside Police are managing an outer cordon at the premises. The incident is ongoing.”
