A Limerick-based novelist and a Wexford antiques dealer are among those on the latest tax defaulters list published by the Revenue Commissioners.

Revenue published 36 settlements in its latest list, including a publican, a solicitor, a medical practitioner and several landlords. The overall value of these settlements totaled €9.4m.

Topping the list was Irish novelist Darren O’Shaughnessy, who writes under the pen name Darren Shan. O’Shaughnessy, with an address at Shannon Grove in Pallaskenry, Limerick, was audited by Revenue for the under-declaration of income tax.

The best-selling author has written popular books including Cirque du Freak, The City Trilogy and Zom-B Clans.

The settlement, which has since been paid in full, included €1.44m in tax, €271,090 in interest and €432,227 in penalties, totaling €2.1m. Mr O’Shaughnessy is also listed as a company director and landlord in addition to being a novelist.

Mr O’Shaughnessy was contacted for comment.

The second-largest settlement was from company director, landlord and property developer Edmond Moloney, with a Portuguese address at Rua Dos Ciprestes, Pinheiros Altos, Almancil. 

Mr Moloney was audited by Revenue for the under-declaration of income tax.

The settlement, which has been paid in full, included €749,231 in tax, €278,666 in interest and €224,767 in penalties, bringing the total to more than €1.23m.

A Limerick solicitor was also on the list. Michael Noonan of 7 Friarstown Close, Ballycummin Village in Raheen was audited by Revenue for the under-declaration of income tax.

The settlement, which was paid in full, included €75,686 in tax, €7,061 in interest and €22,705 in penalties, bringing the total to €105,452.

Louth publican Razbrown Limited, trading as Gleesons of 64/65 West Street in Drogheda, was audited by Revenue for the under-declaration of PAYE, PRSI and USC.

The settlement, which has been paid in full, included €71,851 in tax, €38,096 in interest and €28,740 in penalties, totaling €138,687.

Wexford antiques dealer and jewellery maker Brigid Wall of Milltown, Ballycullane, New Ross, was audited by Revenue for the under-declaration of VAT. 

The settlement, which has been paid in full, included €58,416 in tax, €19,700 in interest and €17,525 in penalties.

A Cork medical practitioner also featured on the list. Michael Shannon of Kairos, Strawberry Lane, Castletreasure, Douglas, was audited by Revenue for the under-declaration of income tax.

The settlement, which has been paid in full, included €129,787 in tax, €46,474 in interest and €38,935 in penalties, bringing the total to €215,196.
