Footage has been released showing the moments after an alleged would-be assassin botched an attempt to kill a Sydney crime figure and led police on a pursuit.

The vision shows a silver Mercedes police allege was staking out Hamzy family crime boss Ibrahem Hamze in North Sydney in August 2021.

Police allege Samuel John Rokomaqisa was one of two people in the car at the time and was staking out Mr Hamze’s home after he was hired by the Alameddine crime family to kill him.

The alleged attempt to kill Mr Hamze was foiled after Highway Patrol officers noticed the would-be assassin’s car was parked in a no-parking zone, a Supreme Court jury has heard.

The vision released by the court shows the Mercedes at a set of lights in front of the police vehicle before it speeds through a red light and through busy North Sydney streets.

The car can be seen running another red light, swerving through traffic as it narrowly misses hitting a bus at a busy intersection.

It then veers onto the wrong side of the road, where it almost collides with more cars before police terminate the pursuit.

Mr Rokomaqisa is on trial in the Supreme Court over conspiring to murder Ibrahem Hamze and also murdering his older brother Bilal Hamze in June 2021 in Sydney’s CBD.

He denies having any involvement in both contracts to take out the Hamze brothers and has pleaded not guilty.

The Hamzy and Alameddine crime families had been locked in an underworld war at the time that would eventually see seven people killed.

The jury was told last month Ibrahem Hamze had moved from Auburn to the city’s north shore at the time over threats to his life at the height of the gangland hostilities.

The jury was previously told Mr Rokomaqisa’s ex-partner would give evidence that the 35-year-old told her at the time he was waiting for “some c*** to come out”.

Police allege when the Mercedes ran a flat tyre, Mr Rokomaqisa got out and carjacked a 76-year-old man and then fled in his vehicle.

That man, Vincenzo Nesci, told the jury on August 11 the pistol-toting men who stole his car were “polite”.

“The passenger of the car had the window down, he put the gun to my face and said ‘get out of the car’,” the now 80-year-old said.

“I couldn’t tell what he looked like because he had a balaclava over his face.

“To me he sounded rather polite actually, well spoken.”

Defence barrister George Thomas previously told the jury that a number of people had left DNA in the getaway cars, not just Mr Rokomaqisa.

‘Ibby has gotta go’

Police allege as part of their case Ibrahem Hamze had become a target due to his high ranking in the Hamzy family’s criminal enterprise.

In one conversation secretly recorded inside the home of a rival Alameddine crime boss, underworld figure Murat Gulasi could be heard allegedly referencing taking out Mr Hamzy.

“Tell Raf Ibby has gotta go,” Mr Gulasi said.

Mr Gulasi died of natural causes while in Turkey in 2023.

The trial before Justice Robert Allan Hulme continues.
