Following last year’s wildly successful Crate & Kids collaboration, Queer Eye‘s “Fab 5” design expert Jeremiah Brent returns with The Collected Home, his debut capsule for Crate & Barrel.

“Every little detail’s been thought about” and “obsessed over,” Brent tells THR of the collaboration. “I really wanted the collection to have a fluidity to it… that these pieces can blend into your life really beautifully.”

The Collected Home spans all furniture and decor categories, from sectional sofas, low-profile bed frames and large dining tables to lighting, throw pillows and pottery inspired by his travels to Peru (where he got engaged to fellow designer Nate Berkus “a thousand years ago”).

Throughout Brent’s design process, one of his main pillars, as he describes it, was a “return to heirloom.” “All [the pieces] have an archival vintage flair to them.” They’re also all very personal. For example, the Michel Shearling Accent Chair draws inspiration from the 1930s fireside seat in his own home.

Beyond the collection, which Brent describes as the “most positive and effective collaboration [he’s] ever had,” the designer left THR readers with three of his biggest decorating pointers:

“My number one tip is that you have to edit constantly, because if you think about it, we’re changing constantly… and the one thing we don’t change is our space. If it’s not absolutely beautiful or absolutely functional, let it go.”

“So many times, especially with small spaces, people push everything against the wall because they think that’s going to give the illusion of it feeling bigger. The truth is you need to bring things in and float them.”

“Have fun and be a little bit more playful. It does not need to be as serious as we’re making it.”
