A Donegal woman celebrated her 106th birthday yesterday, attributing her longevity to a good, healthy lifestyle.

Nábla Diver, from Cill Chartaigh, now resides in Killybegs Community Hospital where cake and well-wishes were the order of the day.

Ms Diver, was born on 11 September 1919 in An Seanach, Cill Chartaigh.

She was the youngest of six children, and a skilled knitter who worked for various agents in the area throughout her life.

Speaking to RTÉ News, her grand niece, Yvonne Ferry, said the family were proud and delighted of Ms Diver for reaching this milestone.

“Nábla is such a lovely lady, we’re all so proud of her,” said Ms Ferry.

“She is so good to us all and really enjoyed celebrating her birthday with us all, including the residents, staff and family members.”

“Nábla, is also a woman of strong faith,” she added.

Ms Diver said she never worried about anything, never smoked nor drank, ate healthy food and never got married.

She lived independently until only 11 years ago, when she moved into sheltered housing in An Charraig.

Ms Diver has been residing at Killybegs Community Hospital since April of this year.

She will now be presented with a sixth Presidential Coin, a special commemoration for those who reach the age of 100 and older.
