A cyclist has died following a hit-and-run incident in Ballivor, Co Meath.

The collision, which involved the cyclist and a vehicle, happened in the Batterstown area this morning.

The cyclist, a man aged in his 80s, was found unresponsive. He was then taken to Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown where he was pronounced dead.

The road where the incident happened is closed for a technical examination.

An appeal for witnesses has been issued and gardaí have said that they are interested in the movements of a heavy goods vehicle in the area between 9.30am and 10am.

Gardaí have asked that any road users who may camera footage, including dash-cam, to make it available to them.
