A man in his 80s has died after a hit-and-run in Co Meath on Friday morning.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following the fatal crash which occurred at Batterstown, Ballivor, Co Meath, this morning shortly before 10am.

Gardaí and emergency services responded to the fatal hit-and-run on the R156 which involved a cyclist and “a vehicle that failed to remain at the scene,” gardaí said.

“The male cyclist, aged in his 80’s, was discovered unresponsive, and removed to Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown where he was subsequently pronounced deceased,” a garda spokesperson said.

The road is currently closed for technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

“Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area of Batterstown, Ballivor, Co. Meath, between 9.30am and 10.00am on Friday 12th September 2025, are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.

“Gardaí are particularly interested in the movements of heavy goods vehicles (rigid or articulated trucks) in the area at the time.
