Almost a year ago, Charlie Kirk offered up his take on Canadian politics during an interaction with a college student on a U.S. campus.

In a newly resurfaced video that has gone viral, Kirk, who was assassinated Wednesday by a gunman during a speech at Utah Valley University, is seen fielding a question from a scholar from Alberta who asks, “What would you do if you were Prime Minister of Canada right now?”

“I would deport Justin Trudeau the first day. That guy sucks,” Kirk started his lengthy response, before outlining what he thought was wrong with the country.

“Canada’s a real problem, man. I would basically allow Alberta to become its own country … The two best parts of Canada are Edmonton and Calgary. Beautiful country, too, it’s amazing. Canada is a really screwed up country and it is a self-hating country, as you well know, that prides itself on being polite. This is a great lesson for those of us from the West that your favourable characteristics of being polite, nice and welcoming can also be your downfall. You know that in Canada, right?”

As the student nodded in agreement, Kirk continued: “Super polite, ‘OK, we’re just going to allow a bunch of foreigners into our country.’ Super polite, ‘We’re not going to have free speech.’ Canada’s got a big problem. It does not have the (American) constitution, so you do not have robust free speech protections (and) you do not have second amendment protections. So the government is able to do whatever they want. I wouldn’t want to be prime minister of Canada, I wouldn’t last very long.”

Kirk, who co-founded the nonprofit political organization Turning Point USA, went on to declare that Ottawa, Toronto and Vancouver were proof that the country has “some of the most liberal cities on the planet.”

“Canada is bringing in half of its population in the next decade from immigrants. It’s just not sustainable and it’s too bad; it was a once great country. Canada has fallen,” Kirk said.

Kirk, who was a close ally of U.S. President Donald Trump and was seen as a key to ensuring the Republican’s return to power last year, cheered on Trudeau’s resignation when the Liberal leader announced he was stepping down in January.

“Make Canada Great Again,” Kirk tweeted.

In a follow-up post, Kirk mocked Trudeau’s message that Canada would ever become the 51st state.

“Outgoing Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says, ‘There isn’t a snowball’s chance in hell that Canada would become part of the United States,’” Kirk wrote, sharing Trudeau’s fiery tweet. “Mr. Trudeau, when you’re playing defense, you’re already losing!”

On X, as his blunt response to the student from last year racked up tens of thousands of views, Kirk’s supporters weighed in on his thoughts on Canada.

“The Liberals in Canada are tearing this once great nation apart. economically and socially,” one person wrote, while another added, “Charlie was 100% correct about the Trudeau Liberals.”

After Kirk’s death, podcast host Joe Rogan – who was also a frequent critic of Trudeau – praised the conservative activist for promoting open debate.

“There’s going to be a lot of people celebrating this,” Rogan told guest Charlie Sheen (per Fox News). “It’s so scary. It’s so dangerous too, to celebrate or to in any way encourage this kind of behavior from human beings. … He’s not a violent guy. He was talking to people on college campuses.”

In an interview with Fox News Channel on Friday morning, Trump said that the suspect in Kirk’s assassination had been caught.

“With a high degree of certainty, we have him,” Trump announced in a live interview on Fox.

“He wanted to help young people, and he didn’t deserve this,” Trump said Friday. “He was really a good person.”
