The teenager charged over the stabbing death of 70-year-old Ipswich woman Vyleen White during a carjacking almost 18 months ago has pleaded guilty to her murder.

In February last year Ms White was fatally wounded in the chest at an underground car park at a Redbank Plains shopping centre.

On Tuesday, the now 17-year-old, who cannot be named under Queensland’s youth justice laws, appeared in the Supreme Court in Brisbane for an arraignment.

In front of Ms White’s husband and other family members seated in the gallery, the teenager entered pleas of guilty to several charges including murder and unlawful use of a motor vehicle in company.

He also pleaded guilty to unrelated stealing offences.

At the time of his arrest, it was alleged the then 16-year-old had stabbed Ms White whilst trying to steal her car.

The teenager, who has been on remand since his arrest, was returned to custody ahead of his sentencing.

A hearing date has been set down for November.
